How to be compliant with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)

The new GDPR rules came into force in May 2018.

At Manchester Shredding the handling and destruction of data is right at the heart of everything we do.

Our commercial paper shredding and hard drive destruction are key activities in the data protection process.

So, we're helping local businesses in Manchester, Cheshire and across the UK understand and comply with the data privacy requirements of the GDPR.

Reassuringly, many of the main concepts and principles of the GDPR are similar to those in the current Data Protection Act (DPA). So, if you are complying properly with the current law then most of your approach to compliance will remain valid under the GDPR and can be the basis of your policy.

However, there are new elements and significant enhancements, so you will have to do some things for the first time and some things differently compared to your current working practice.

We recommend you follow the official 12 point checklist below and other Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) resources to work out the main differences between the current law and the GDPR. You may find there are some actions you need to take to remain compliant.
